Burns, Winfield-Hill powers Amazon Warriors to eight-wicket win
ERIN BURNS and Lauren Winfield-Hill featured in an unbroken third-wicket stand of 119 as Guyana Amazon Warriors registered a comfortable eight-wicket win over the Trinbago Knight Riders on Friday night, as the 2024 Massy-sponsored Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) continued at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, Trinidad.
After the Amazon Warriors were struggling at 15 runs for the loss of two wickets, in pursuit of a victory target of 131, Burns (78 off 48 balls with 10 fours) and opener, and captain, Winfield-Hill (46 off 47 balls with four fours) carried the 2023 beaten finalists to a score of 134/2, with 2.4 overs remaining.
Opening bowlers Jess Jonassen (1/13) and Shikha Pandey (1/23) were the wicket-takers for Trinbago Knight Riders, who suffered a seven-wicket loss to 2023 champions Barbados Royals on Thursday.
Left-arm spinner Chloe Tyron earlier took 4/21 while leg-spinner Nyia Latchman had 1/14 and pacer Shabnim Ismail 1/17 as the Amazon Warriors, who had a nail-biting one-wicket defeat to the Royals on Wednesday, restricted the Trinbago Knight Riders to 130/6.
Harshitha Samarawickrama top-scored with 33, while there were useful knocks from Jonassen (28), Jemimah Rodrigues (26) and captain Deandra Dottin (20).
Both the Amazon Warriors and Knight Riders will face each other once again, on Sunday, at Tarouba.
