If you’re new to the media hyped feud between Curtly and Chris you could be forgiven for thinking Chris Gayle ran his mouth for no reason and was well out of line.

A quick perusal of the headlines and the big voices in the media went through the usual litany of criticisms where Chris Gayle is concerned.

‘Vulgar’, ‘brash’, ‘arrogant’ take your pick - few if any outlets or individuals bothered to watch the whole interview Chris did with The Islanexd Tea Morning Show

The reality as with all things is there is always a context to headlines. In my Rum Shot Diaries cuss out series I dissected the context and explained why people need to look deeper to understand where Chris was coming from.

Chris will always feel he has never truly received his flowers in West Indies Cricket, this despite breaking records in all three formats of the game. It is highly unlikely we will see another West Indian cricketer like him.

It is also worth noting that Johnny Grave, Cricket West Indies CEO, has indicated that both Ambrose and Gayle have been spoken to about their conduct.

Whether people realised it at the time, Curtly is employed by CWI as a coach for the West Indies U19 team.
