Is Andre Russell committed to the West Indies?
With Pollard's announcing his international retirement it begs the question whether Dre Russ is in or out?
Another T20 World Cup is on the horizon this year and West Indies will have to face the ignominy of trying to qualify for a competition they have won twice (as recently as 2016).
Their chances and hopes of doing that took somewhat of a blow this week with the surprising announcement that T20 and ODI captain Kieron Pollard has retired from international cricket with immediate effect.
There will be plenty to write and say on that in the coming days, however there can be no getting away from the fact that Pollard’s departure leaves both a leadership and experience gap in the T20 ranks.
Pollard now joins Chris Gayle and DJ Bravo in the international retirement lounge as we wave goodbye to yet another of our T20 greats.
Thus we turn to one of the remaining two who technically remain available for maroon selection. Andre ‘Superman’ Russell.
Listen to enough Maroon fans and it wont be long before you reach a consensus that people are fine with no longer seeing Dre represent West Indies.
Whether that be due to Dre’s inconsistent output in international colours or lackadaisical attitude to making himself available to selection. Some would prefer to draw the curtain on Dre’s international career before he himself gets to decide.
Yet for seasoned international cricket fans with no West Indian allegiance they would be right to question how any team can reject the skillset Russell offers.
With that in mind I jumped into the cuss out hot seat to look at the Dre Russ situation in detail.
Is he really committed to the West Indies cause? Should the selectors move on from him? Can West Indies really afford to leave him out come what may?
Feel free to share the cuss out with anyone you feel would benefit from this platform and the work we are doing to be the #1 media brand covering West Indies cricket.
