Oh Shimron!
Where does Shimron Hetmyer's third fitness test failure in two years leave his West Indies career?
When I interviewed Shimron Hetmyer on the Caribbean Cricket Podcast back in August 2021 I didn’t hold back in asking Shimron about his then fitness woes.
At that point he had failed fitness tests and been dropped by the West Indies in February 2020 and February 2021.
Shimron to his credit owned it and did not try to fob me off stating that his poor fitness was “all on him”.
At the time I took that to mean Shimron was ready to buckle down and make the most of his enormous potential.
He had a middling 2021 CPL and was West Indies best batsman in a woeful team performance at the 2021 T20 World Cup however we wont see him kick on in the first months of 2022 as we experience Groundhog Day.
Once more Shimron has failed a fitness test which has seen him denied selection for the Men’s Maroon for both the Ireland and England series.
It really beggars belief that Shimron is putting himself in this position again and again. Even worse what prompted this drop was his own Guyana franchise holding yo-yo tests and reporting back to CWI that Shimron was extremely out of shape.
So here we are once more - what happens next?
I took to our You Tube channel to look at where we go from here with Shimron Hetmyer.
