I like that, it’s probably what I’d do too. The only point I’d question is Leach vs Moeen. With Campbell the ONLY right hander in the Windies lineup which has huge issues against left arm spin and is fairly competent against off spin. That would compromise batting though meaning Woakes/Curran may have to come in for Broad. Not sure Broad is going to allow them to drop him lol.

*Campbell is the only left hander rather.

So given the England consensus, as expected, is to go in with a spinner. Aren't WI making a mistake if they dont?

Re: England selection I totally see your point. Personally I would go Moeen but who knows what they're seeing in training?

Given that both the Ageas Bowl and Old Trafford take spin, it'd be wise to play Cornwall. If that's v harsh on one of the seamers, so be it, all it means is our bench strength is v strong.

England don't have Root as a part timer, so they really need to play the frontline spinner (not that they wouldn't have in Root's presence). Think the final selection all boils down to how much they trust Chase and what they see when they go up to Southampton.

Lawrence can do that Root role if selected but playing at the Ageas may well need a spinner and I'll tell you why.

Hampshire hired Somerset's old groundsman for the arrival of Nathan Lyon as an overseas. Taunton has turned square the last few years as found by Jack Leach and Dom Bess. My hope is they do prepare a wicket thst takes spin and the groundsman is capable of that.

In terms of England, I think Moeen gets the nod over Leach purely because they wouldn't like a tail of Archer, Broad, Anderson and Leach (though trust me, Archer can bat).

That's a v interesting insight. Spin has proven effective at Old Trafford too historically, so yeah I think it mandates a specialist spinner then.

Re: tail, I know Archer's done it for Sussex, but so far in his England career it looks like he's been in for a good time rather than a long time. That needs to change, I think.

If Archer proved his batting potential in prev series, they would have gone with Leach, perhaps? Because his stats against right handers are very compelling and this Windies lineup is as righty-heavy as they come.
