Why Bermuda's Kamau Leverock is cricket's best kept secret
Fresh off his record breaking 103 in the ICC Cricket World Cup Americas sub-regional qualifiers - Kamau Leverock sat with the Caribbean Cricket Podcast to discuss his career to date.
Two months ago Bermuda went one step closer to qualifying for next year’s ICC T20 World Cup.
By defeating Argentina, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Panama in the ICC Cricket World Cup Americas sub-regional qualifier competition. Bermuda will now face Canada, Cayman Islands and Panama in the Americas final later this year to determine the qualifier for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Yet amidst the wonderful achievement for the Bermuda cricket team there was an individual performance of note. In the game against Panama, vice-captain Kamau Leverock became the first Bermudian to score an international T20 century.
We have of course featured Kamau Leverock in this newsletter before and three years on we find ourselves still asking when and where Leverock is going to get his big break?
His talent has never been in doubt and he has the receipts to support that assessment but the glut of global T20 opportunities continue to elude him.
With that in mind it felt right to get Kamau on the Caribbean Cricket Podcast to talk representing Bermuda, playing in the Caribbean, T20 cricket and being a history maker.
As ever it was a fascinating insight into cricket at the 'associate' level of international cricket.
