Hi Peter! Thanks for the read. I did see at the time it was published and Kamau brought it up as well - he said he and Delray go hard in that chapter. Thanks for linking it here. I've been trying to get my hands on it - is it only paperback? Any chances there's a Kindle version or some electronic copy?
We very much appreciate your work and hope others in the media take notice of your efforts and actually reciprocate.
I feel Levrock has been hurt by the financial implications on counties when they field non English players.
Each county gets a fee per English player in a 1st XI fixture. It has been a barrier as well for players from the Netherlands. I have experienced many pushbacks on these players and this has been one of the main reason.
Of course, if England were interested in Levrock (like they were with Archer) then they would be able to twist the rules but I'm not sure.
Hi Luke, thanks for your response! I have asked Kamau about this. All players from Bermuda are England qualified so he said isn't considered a non-English player in reality (like for eg. a Dutch player would). Which is partly why he feels hurt he hasn't got more of an opportunity, because in an ideal world its all level ground.
I think that's really interesting, I get really confused the rules because he was based in Horsham CC in Sussex as an overseas players (again, Jofra used to be classed as an overseas when he played for them) and I just never got myself around the rules!
I genuinely wonder if all Directors of Cricket or the powers at the clubs are aware of the rules. Seems amateurish I know, but it wouldn't shock me!
Yeah, its pretty complicated and it wouldn't shock me. So, with Jofra he had to do his qualification period, which was obviously later trimmed. Kamau and Delray could in theory represent England next week if picked, because Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory.
But with Jofra, I think his Dad has a British passport so I'm not sure how the qualification period actually worked especially when it was just suddenly trimmed!
It would make sense about Bermuda but the rules and how they suddenly change is a completely different and weird topic.
Haha, yes, its quite obscure at times and hard to keep track of when they change. Also, Kamau confirmed he's never been classed as an overseas player in England, even at Horsham CC. Jofra played as an overseas for them, you're right about that. So yeah, so many ambiguities for sure.
There's a whole chapter dedicated to Kamau Leverock which covers many of these CPL-related topics extensively in my book "Inside the Selection Room". https://www.amazon.com/dp/1090751257/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=Inside+the+selection+room&qid=1575126647&sr=8-2

Thanks so much for clearing that up, it's so confusing!
I really hope Kamau gets his chance, he's a real talent that's been on the scene for a long time so it's well overdue.
